Martha Ann Wendland Owen, age 85, passed away on June 29, 2019, in McKinney Texas, following a long illness. 

Martha was a lifelong Catholic and had been a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel for many years.

Martha is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Ronnie Clay Owen, Sr. in 2015, as well as parents William "Bill" and Elsie Wendland, in-laws, Prentice and Helen Owen, brother, Charles "David" Wendland and brother-in-law, Jerry Roy.

Martha was born September 23, 1933, to William and Elsie Wendland in Corpus Christi, TX. The oldest of five children, Martha was raised on a farm between Gregory and Bayside.

She was very active in many extracurricular activities in high school and was the 1951 Class Valedictorian of Gregory High School. She was also the first female athlete in Gregory High School to letter all four years in basketball.

After high school, Martha worked as a bank teller at Taft Bank. In 1954 , she married Ronnie Clay Owen Sr. of Taft, TX. Martha and Ronnie lived in the White Point area for several years before moving to Portland, TX.

Martha Owen retired in 1990, from Portland State Bank (now Frost Bank), Portland TX after a long career as a teller and Vice President. Following retirement, Martha enjoyed cooking, painting, crafting and photography. Martha and Ronnie also enjoyed hunting fishing and traveling to South Fork, Colorado. 

Martha is survived by her four children: Mary Elaine Hoffmann (Edward) of Roseburg, Oregon, Karen Owen Hammett of Plano, Texas, Ronnie Clay Owen, Jr. (Tita) of Portland, Texas and William Prentice Owen (Mary Alice) of Uvalde, Texas. 

Martha is also survived by four grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Martha's surviving siblings include William "Bill" Wendland (Barbara) of Cedar Park, Texas, Marlou Wendland and Rosalie Roy, both of Taft, Texas and Richard Wendland (Mary Helen) of Rockport, Texas. Also surviving is her brother in law, Prentice Owen (Susan) of Damon, Texas. 

The family would like to thank Rosalie Roy for her endless 24/7 care of Martha for several years and also thank Blair Jones for the many trips to the Beauty Shop, library and Dairy Queen for an occasional dip cone.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 7:00 PM on July 11, 2019 at Limbaugh Funeral Home with a Rosary at 7:00 PM. Church service will be held at 10:00 AM on July 12, 2019 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church located at 1008 Austin St. Portland TX 78374. Burial to follow to Palms Memorial Gardens.

Family and friends are invited to share a meal at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish Hall following the burial provided by the Catholic Daughters.
